Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn finally come together in the ring this year and Tyson Fury has given his view on the much anticipated contest.
Though Fury’s long rivalry with heavyweight Anthony Joshua may never make it through the ropes, Eubank and Benn will do battle on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Their fight was first scheduled back in October 2022 but was canned when Benn failed drugs tests in the lead up. He has since spent more than two years attempting to clear his name, always maintaining his innocence, and was cleared to fight on home soil late last year.
Since the ill-fated first bout, the 28-year-old has fought two low-key opponents and beaten both on points out in the United States. Eubank has stayed busy with a KO loss to Liam Smith which he then avenged in the immediate rematch before stopping Kamill Szeremeta in October last year.
Benn – a natural welterweight – will have to deal with moving up two divisons to take on Eubank, who is the naturally bigger, at middleweight.
Speaking to TNT Sports, ‘The Gypsy King’ predicted how he sees it going – and is backing Eubank at 160lbs.
“It’s a weight category thing, if it’s 10.5 stone it’s going to be Conor Benn, if it’s at middleweight then probably Chris Eubank Jr.”
The fight has a ten-pound rehydration clause in the contract, meaning Eubank will be weighed again on Saturday morning and face penalties should he be over 170.
Former Eubank victor Billy Joe Saunders, however, thinks Benn will have enough to KO his old foe.
