Tyson Fury has an extremely significant fight on his hands next month, both in terms of his future and his legacy.

The Brit suffered his first loss in May of this year when former undisputed cruiserweight champion and unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk beat him over the distance.

Usyk – who seriously hurt Fury in round nine before winning a split decision – picked up Fury’s WBC belt that night to become four-belt champion in a second division.

The immediate rematch was announced quickly and ‘The Gypsy King’ is deep in camp for it taking place on December 21. Speaking on the Pound for Pound podcast, he was of course confident of winning the rematch. If he does, he sees a trilogy as the only option.

“When I beat Usyk the next time. God willing I do what I believe I can do. My own promoter said to me today in an interview ‘you win this, you’re back on top and there’s no talking point, that’s it, you put it behind you.’

And I said no, Frank, that’s not what we’re going to do. When I win this fight with Usyk then there has to be a third fight. There has to be. Because if you win one and I win one then there has to be a third fight.

Regardless who won the second one, there has to be a third fight to see who is the best out of us two. One each, one decider. And that’s what I’ll look for after that. And after that’s done, next year in maybe February or March, then I’ll look for the winner of the rematch between AJ and Dubois.”

Many have suggested Anthony Joshua, who recently failed in his attempt to become a three-weight world champion when he was knocked out by new titlist Daniel Dubois, may be the next fight for Fury, win or lose against Usyk. The man from Morecambe clearly doesn’t agree.
