Tyson Fury Has No Doubt Who “The Future Of The Heavyweight Division” Is

Tyson Fury is a former two-time world champion and, during his 16 years as a professional, has won every major heavyweight belt on offer. Few are better placed to judge who might be the division’s future standout.

The only achievement missing from Fury’s career is the undisputed crown, something he narrowly lost out on when he suffered his first defeat at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk in May.

Fury will get the chance to avenge that loss when the two will collide again in the rematch in December. But, with ‘The Gypsy King’ being 35 and Usyk now 37, fans are looking to see who will be next to fill void they’ll leave.

In preparation for the undisputed clash Fury took to social media to single out one his sparring partners as the ‘future of the heavyweight division’ – 19-year-old Moses Itauma.

“Moses Itauma is the future of the heavyweight division 100%.”

Itauma only turned professional last year and has already amassed 9 victories, with 7 coming by way of knockout.

The young Brit certainly doesn’t lack ambition, telling The Mirror that he wants to beat Mike Tyson’s long standing record of being the youngest ever heavyweight champion at just 20 years and 145 days.

“I want to become the youngest heavyweight world champion since Mike Tyson who was 20-years-old. I need to take small steps but also ensure that I step up the tasks very quickly. I want to do short steps but not too much with them.

Youngest ever world heavyweight champion is in my mid-term goals but it is something that I can believe I can achieve before 2025. It is not what I am thinking about right of this second, but I want to let that come once I have grown as a professional. I have gone from not having any press at all to this and it is crazy.”

With just under a year left to beat ‘Iron’ Mike’s record it looks unlikely he’ll achieve that feat, but would most likely settle for Fury’s prediction.
