Tyson Fury has picked out a list of the top British boxers.

Fury himself was in with a shout for many years. ‘The Gypsy King’ got a historic win on away soil back in 2015 when he dethroned the long ruling champion and knockout artist Wladimir Klitschko on points.

After a time away he returned to the sport and eventually took on another fearsome puncher in Deontay Wilder. He stopped the American in two of their three fights after a controversial draw in the first contest and after that stepped up to face Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed contest.

He narrowly lost on points after a torrid ninth round in which he was sent spinning around the ropes, and the same result transpired in the rematch late last year which sent him into retirement back in January, although many fans still hope he will return for one more showdown with fellow British heavyweight and former champion Anthony Joshua.

Speaking to TNT Sports Boxing, Fury was asked to name the best fighter from British shores and instead chose five, including himself.

“Prince Naseem Hamed, or Carl Froch or Joe Calzaghe or Lennox Lewis, or me.”

Welshman Calzaghe famously retired unbeaten after 46 fights at super-middleweight and light heavyweight, Froch held multiple world championships at 168lbs on different occasions, though was famously unable to ever share the ring with Calzaghe.

Former Olympic medalist Lewis was the last undisputed heavyweight champion before Usyk, and ‘Prince Nas’ was a lineal featherweight champion from 1998 to 2001 renowned for his showboating.
