Tyson Fury Finally Reveals What Was Going Through His Mind When Usyk Nearly Stopped Him

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have re-watched their epic undisputed fight together from back in May.

The much-anticipated contest finally played out in Saudi Arabia having been delayed from February when Fury suffered a bad cut late in sparring.

The fight was engaging from the first to the last bell with plenty of slick skills, great footwork and high-level defence being used by both men.

Fury has since said he grew overconfident and started clowning around, which ultimately led to him being caught with a big shot and then a barrage of punches in the ninth round.

The Brit ended up stumbling around the ropes, looking out on his feet and taking a count from the referee which proved the difference when it came to the cards at the conclusion of the 12th. Usyk won a split decision and added the undisputed honours to his record having also cleaned up down at cruiserweight six years before.

Speaking to TNT Sports Boxing, Fury was asked if he thought the referee had stopped the fight at that point in the ninth when he stepped in between the action.

“No, no, it’s a world heavyweight title fight, undisputed, at least a man’s got to go down to the floor. Someone like me, who’s been down loads of times and gets back up, at least give me one chance.”

Usyk was then asked what was going through his mind at that moment.

“I don’t think about it.”

Fury has a history of approaching rematches very differently, as evidenced clearly by his domination of Deontay Wilder after drawing the first bout. On December 21, he will have to prove once more he is able to switch things up if he is to avenge his one and only loss.
