Tyson Fury is willing to end yet another retirement and return to the ring.
Fury was undefeated in 35 fights until he came up against Oleksandr Usyk, who beat the Brit twice in 2024. When they first met in May, Usyk added Fury’s WBC belt to his WBO, IBF and WBA collection to become the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis.
In order to fulfil a contracted rematch in December, Usyk dropped the IBF belt, which was given to Interim Champion Daniel Dubois. Usyk then defended his three remaining titles against Fury in the return fight, winning again on points.
In the aftermath, ‘The Gypsy King’ – who felt he had deserved the nod in both bouts – retired from the sport, though not for the first time.
Though still officially in retirement, the 36-year-old took to Instagram to accept the challenge.
“Beat the f***er two times and the world knows the truth. Any time, any place [sucker]. UK next time. 100,000 people.”
Though many already believed Fury would return, it was felt that the fight to make it happen would be against Anthony Joshua. The all-British heavyweight grudge match has eluded fans for years but became more likely after both men had lost their belts to Usyk.
The man from Morecambe had already teased a comeback earlier this week, and will perhaps be planning the ‘AJ’ bout before taking on the winner of Usyk versus Dubois, set for July 19 at Wembley Stadium, London.
