Tyson Fury is one of the most accomplished heavyweights of this era.
The Brit has has a storied career in which he has won every major belt, the WBA, WBO and IBF titles from 2015 to 2016 and the WBC between 2020 and 2024, as well as the British, European and Commonwealth titles earlier in his campaign.
His first loss in 36 fights came back in May against an equally great fighter in Oleksandr Usyk. The contest for the undisputed championship was a close one which ended in a points win for the Ukrainian and has set up an epic rematch next month out in Saudi Arabia.
Fury has vowed to be more focused the second time round after claiming he rather enjoyed himself too much in the first fight, while Usyk is just as certain he will win second time around.
The return bout is for three of the four major belts after Usyk vacated the IBF, though it’s not legacy or titles that’s on the mind of ‘The Gypsy King.’
Speaking to TNT Sports Fury has now revealed what keeps him going back to the gym.
“What do I fight for, what are my priorities, what are my goals, what are my targets? All of those things are to make as much money as possible. It’s not a belt, not a legacy, not a boxing fight, it’s to make as much money as possible.
“And to do that I’ve got to do as much fights as I can until the wheels fall off this mother f**ker and I’m 50 years old and walking with a stick down the street. That’s how all of the great fighters go out. All of them.
“Your Alis, your Sugar Ray Robinson, your Foremans, everybody did that, and if you’re a real fighter you do that, you keep going until you can’t fight any more.”
Many fans will be glad to hear that given that there are still plenty of big fights for Fury after Usyk regardless of the result, including with former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua, or current IBF ruler Daniel Dubois.
