Mike Tyson will likely be an interested observer when Terence Crawford goes up against Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford and Canelo are set to meet in a huge showdown in Las Vegas in September, with ‘Bud’ stepping up two weight divisions for the clash at 168lbs.

Canelo is the reigning WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight champion, but the fight against Crawford could see the Mexican superstar defend all four world titles, provided that he can first defeat IBF champion William Scull in May.

If it indeed is for all four world title belts, it would give ‘Bud’ the opportunity to become undisputed in a third division, having already achieved that honour at both super-lightweight and welterweight, whilst also claiming world titles at 135lba and 154lbs.

That latest world title triumph came when Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title last August, but boxing legend Tyson seemingly wasn’t too impressed with the American’s performance.

Speaking to the It Is What It Is Podcast, Tyson initially needed just three words to sum up Crawford’s chances against Canelo.

“Too much weight.”

Tyson then explained how the fight between ‘Bud’ and Madrimov made him come to that conclusion.

“I don’t like that fight. You know he had a close fight with the last guy he fought [Madrimov], because this guy was big and he was awkward, he shouldn’t have fought that guy.”

Crawford will be looking to prove Tyson wrong when he faces Canelo, and he recently named one other mega fight he is eyeing up following his clash with the Mexican icon.
