Heavyweight icon Mike Tyson believes there are at least two fighters better than pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jr.
‘Iron Mike’ is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever laced up a pair of gloves, an opinion that is shared by fans and analysts around the world.
Tyson etched his name into the boxing history books in 1986 when he became the youngest world heavyweight champion of all time when he dethroned WBC champion Trevor Berbick at 20-years and 145-days old.
He later added the WBA and IBF titles to his collection with wins over James Smith and Tony Tucker, achieving undisputed status just one month after his 21st birthday.
Another legendary American who took the boxing world by storm was Floyd Mayweather Jr, who became a world champion in five weight classes during his unbeaten career.
In an interview on YouTube, Tyson played down the credentials of Mayweather as he claims ‘Money’ should not be regarded as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
“Floyd’s a great fighter don’t get me wrong but listen Sugar Ray Robinson had 47 fights, he lost one then he had a 78 fight winning streak. Don’t tell me about he’s [Mayweather] the greatest fighter with 50 and 0, you’re great no doubt about it but no, [Julio Cesar] Chavez had 90 [fights before he lost].”
Mayweather announced his retirement from the professional side of the sport in 2017, shortly after he stopped MMA fighter Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their crossover showdown at the T-Moble Arena in Las Vegas.
The 49-year-old last fought in an exhibition contest two years ago when he dominated John Gotti III in their unscored bout at the Mexico City Arena in Mexico City.
