Mike Tyson Answered Honestly When Asked If Oleksandr Usyk Would ‘Dominate’ His Era

Oleksandr Usyk is one of the greatest boxers of his generation and now Mike Tyson has been speaking about how he might have got on back in the 90s.

Usyk is history’s first-ever two-time undisputed heavyweight ruler, as well as also being an undisputed cruiserweight champion and former Olympic gold medallist.

He has never been down in his professional career and in the last five years has twice beat Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois to clear out the division.

Many fans have constantly debated how the Ukrainian would have fared in other eras, and now whilst speaking to Hard Rock Bet, former undisputed champion Tyson has given his view, suggesting he may have needed to be more aggressive.

“I don’t know, maybe he would have done good with some of us and bad with some of us, too. You know, it’s tough for me seeing him dominate that era. Fighting was different then, too, you know? It was all about being aggressive.

“The boxer didn’t get much, they didn’t get much entitlement, once we’re in the ring the aggressive fighter got more of the points. Even if he got hit more, because he was making the fight, they would give him the rounds. It’s all about excitement.

“If you’re an exciting fighter, you bring the people in the arena, you’re the man. You could be the greatest fighter in the world, but you could be boring, nobody wants to see you. Beat everybody, but nobody wants to see you fight, and you’re boring.”

Usyk is now approaching 40 and the end of his career. He has a WBO mandatory fight likely to be against Fabio Wardley, though Tyson Fury has also called for a trilogy in April 2026.
