Legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson has had plenty to say about Floyd Mayweather ahead of their upcoming exhibition contest.
it has been widely reported in the last couple of months that former undisputed heavyweight champion ‘Iron Mike’ will face Mayweather in an unscored bout this April.
Whilst an official announcement is yet to be made, it has been suggested that the legendary American duo will face each other at an undisclosed venue in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday April 25.
Tyson made a sensational return to the sport back in November 2024 when he suffered a points defeat Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, his first ring appearance in just shy of twenty years.
Speaking on a podcast episode, Tyson claimed that whilst he believes Mayweather is a ‘great fighter’, he says that the five-weight world champion does not deserved to be considered the overall greatest ever.
“Floyd is a great fighter, don’t get me wrong. He had 50 fights. Listen, Sugar Ray Robinson had 40 fights. He lost one, then he had a 78-fight winning streak. Forty, lost one, then a 78-fight winning streak, goddamn.
“Julio Cesar Chavez Sr was 87-0 before he lost. Don’t tell me about ‘You’re the greatest fighter’ with 50-0. You’re great, no doubt about it, but 50-0? Chavez had 90.”
Mayweather certainly deserves to be considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, although many fans, analysts and fighters believe the Michigan-native should not be regarded as the greatest overall.
The 48-year-old has been out of action since he faced John Gotti III in their exhibition clash back in August 2024, but the five-weight world champion has left the door open for a return to action since then and could finally get his wish should a showdown with Tyson come to fruition.
