An unbeaten two-weight world champion has vowed to knock out Russian star Dmitry Bivol emphatic fashion.
Bivol achieved his career-long dream of becoming the undisputed light-heavyweight champion earlier this year when he defeated countryman Artur Beterbiev via majority decision at the conclusion of their rematch on February 22.
The 34-year-old had been in line to lock horns with Beterbiev for a third time before the end of the year but sustained an injury to his back which led to him requiring surgery which he is currently recovering from.
Despite setting his sights on the much anticipated trilogy clash with Beterbiev, another fighter that appears to be on Bivol’s radar is reigning WBC light-heavyweight champion David Benavidez, who remains unbeaten in 30 bouts since making his debut twelve years ago.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Benavidez sensationally claimed that he would defeat Bivol via stoppage should a showdown between the duo materialise, having previously sparred the Russian superstar.
“I’ve sparred [Dmitry] Bivol a lot. So, I know what happened in those sparring sessions so yeah, I could beat him. I can knock him out.”
Benavidez was elevated to full WBC world champion at 175lbs back in April after Bivol opted to vacate the belt to pursue that third bout with Beterbiev, which could take place during the early stages of 2026.
‘The Mexican Monster’ is set to make the maiden defence of his crown later this year as he prepares to face Britain’s Anthony Yarde in an intriguing match-up at the ANB Arena in Riyadh on Saturday November 22.
