Anthony Joshua is carefully plotting his comeback after more than a year out and a Hall of Famer has now called him out.

Joshua is a former two-time unified heavyweight champion of the world but has not had a belt of any sort since his first loss to Oleksandr Usyk back in 2021, and was recently dropped from the Ring Top 10 rankings.

He lost the rematch a year later and then rebuilt with four wins before being stopped by then-IBF ruler Daniel Dubois back in September last year.

Since then, he has been recovering from elbow surgery and is now expected to return to the ring early next year against someone in the Top 20.

Speaking on All The Smoke Fight, former undefeated two-weight champion Andre Ward expressed an interest in coming out of retirement to fight Anthony Joshua.

“Bill [Haney] a good match maker. You gotta give him credit for how he move his son, seeing guys and knowing when to fight them and when not.

“It’s funny, I had been talking about fighting Joshua before but he is the one that put the seed back in my mind three or four weeks ago, that was in the Bay. We was talking about it and I was like, you know what, I would take that fight right now.”

Ward is now 41-years-old and has won all 31 of his fights, though he hasn’t fought since he beat Sergey Kovalev for a second time back in 2017. He won that via TKO, having outpointed the Russian the year before to take his WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles.
