Moses Itauma has quickly emerged as one of the most talked-about stars of the heavyweight division.
Itauma has now had 13 fights, winning them all with 11 coming by way of knockout, and nine of them all inside the first two rounds. He has fast hands and big power which he showed with his last win against veteran heavyweight Dillian Whyte back in August. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ lasted less than two minutes before the referee stopped the fight.
As such, Itauma is being linked with anyone and everyone, including two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Itauma is likely to return by December when he continues his learning journey, with the likes of Filip Hrgovic linked as a potential option.
Another unbeaten star believes a fight against the Brit could happen at some stage, as speaking to Sean Zittel, rising American heavyweight Richard Torrez stopped short of calling Itauma out now but suggested he would one day like a shot at the young southpaw.
“I’m not necessarily sizing him up, but I see his name out there, I see his capabilities. I think he’s a great fighter, I do. I think it would be a crazy fight too, to pond hop a little bit, have a big fight in the USA with some of those guys. So I’m hoping, my fingers are crossed for that because I think that would be something.”
Torrez is 26 years old and hails from California. He has the same record of Itauma right now. He is 13–0 with 11 knockouts, and last time out in April, he fought to a 10-round unanimous decision win over Guido Vianello, so he could well be a solid opponent for Itauma further down the line.
