An unbeaten hard-hitting contender is targeting a showdown with pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford.

‘Bud’ Crawford cemented himself as arguably the best fighter of his generation back in September when he defeated Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship.

The 38-year-old from Omaha put on an impressive display against his Mexican rival to become the first male fighter to win an undisputed world championship in three separate divisions, a feat he has previously achieved at super-lightweight and welterweight respectively.

As rumours begin to circulate about what could be next for the five-division world champion, unbeaten super-welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr has expressed an interest in facing Crawford next in what would be a huge step-up for the 27-year-old from Texas.

Speaking in the post-fight press conference after his recent victory over Erickson Lubin, Ortiz admitted that he is still open for a potential clash with ‘Bud’ as he admits it would be a ‘great fight to make’.

“Look I’m here to fight the best. I don’t care who it is. It can be Boots next, it can be Spence next, it can be Crawford next if he’s still willing to do it because you know that’s a fight that I’ve been calling for, for a while. I think that’s a great fight to make happen still.”

Ortiz marked his return to the ring in style on Saturday night when he stopped countryman Erickson Lubin in the second round of their bout at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, successfully defending his WBC interim super-welterweight title in the process.

The 27-year-old faced-off with former unified welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis just moments after his victory over Lubin, sparking rumours that the unbeaten American duo will be crossing paths in the future.
