The fighter who caused ‘the biggest upset in the history of boxing’ has weighed in on Canelo Alvarez‘s upcoming mega fight with Terence Crawford.

The pound-for-pound superstars are gearing up to do battle for the undisputed super-middleweight championship on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

‘Bud’ Crawford is set to make his first appearance at 168lbs when he faces the Mexican icon, moving up two divisions from his last outing – a points win over previously undefeated Israil Madrimov for the WBA Super-Welterweight World Title.

As for Canelo, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara has made a strong case as the greatest super-middleweight of his generation in recent years, defeating the likes of Billy Joe Saunders, Caleb Planet and Jaime Munguia since making the move up from 160lbs back in 2018.

Speaking to Fight Hype, former undisputed heavyweight champion ‘Buster’ Douglas – who was a 42/1 underdog when he knocked out Mike Tyson back in 1990 – gave his backing to Crawford ahead of his much anticipated showdown with Canelo.

“It’s gonna be a good fight, I’m gonna go with Crawford. Crawford’s gonna do it, it’s gonna be a good fight, I think Crawford’s got the edge, he’s the man.”

Should the unbeaten 37-year-old from Omaha be victorious next month as Douglas predicts, he will write his name into the boxing history books once again by becoming the first male fighter to capture an undisputed championship in three separate weight classes, having already achieved this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight in 2017 and 2023 respectively.
