A rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko was suddenly back in the news at the end of 2024 and now Oleksandr Usyk has predicted how it would go.
Fury first fought Klitschko back in 2015 on away soil out in Germany. He was a huge betting underdog at that point despite having won British, European and Commonwealth belts. On the night he did a superb job of dazzling Klitschko with his lead hand and stopping the Ukrainian’s power punches.
After a technical 12-round fight, it was ‘The Gypsy King’ who had his hand raised to become the unified champion.
After topping the mountain, he entered a period of depression and addiction that kept him away from the ring for a couple of years and he was unable to fulfil his rematch obligation.
Klitschko went on to have one more world title bout against Anthony Joshua and ended up getting stopped in a hugely entertaining 11 rounds at Wembley stadium.
By the time Fury returned to the ring, Klitschko had retired, but in recent weeks rumours began circulating that he was making a comeback and Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh made it clear he wanted to make the rematch with ‘The Gypsy King’ if he beat Oleksandr Usyk in their December rematch.
As such, in a game of winner stays on with Mail Sport Boxing, Usyk was asked who would win between his foe Fury and countryman Klitschko.
“Wladimir Klitschko.”
Any small chance of a rematch was surely dashed when Fury lost for a second time to Usyk on December 22. It is now Fury who may be considering retirement, though he has the opportunity now to face another former Klitschko foe in Joshua.
As for the Ukrainian, he will likely only further consider a return to win a world title. As it stands, that could come against Daniel Dubois as he won’t face Usyk.
