Oleksandr Usyk has been working with Anthony Joshua and has now revealed what he hopes to achieve with the Brit.
Usyk has not yet retired from boxing, but has already built up one of the greatest legacies of anyone in the sport.
The Ukrainian has cleaned up at all levels, starting with a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics in London before then taking six years to beat everyone in the cruiserweight division and become the undisputed champion.
After that, he moved up to heavyweight and once again dominated in every fight, sweeping aside challenges from Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois, all of whom he beat twice to become undisputed champion not once, but twice.
He is the first man in the history of the four-belt era to achieve that and, having vacated the WBO belt now that is now the possession of Fabio Wardley, is in camp and working towards his next challenge. That comes against the celebrated kickboxer Rico Verhoeven in Egypt in May.
Meanwhile, Usyk has also had ‘AJ’ in camp with him in Ukraine. The pair have been working together in the gym, and a new post on X suggests that Usyk wants to take Joshua all the way back to the very top as he writes his initials on the wall next to the words “Undisputed 2027.'”
Joshua ruled over the division for several years, beating the likes of Charles Martin, Wladimir Klitschko and Joseph Parker on his way to becoming unified champion before he lost his belts to Usyk, and later got stopped by Daniel Dubois.
At the end of last year, Joshua was involved in a tragic car accident in Nigeria in which he lost two of his closest friends and team members, and has not boxed since late 2025 when he knocked out Jake Paul.
