Right now, Oleksandr Usyk is the king of the heavyweight division.
Back in May he became the first undisputed ruler since Lennox Lewis in 1999. The Ukrainian had to relinquish the IBF belt in order to honour his rematch with Tyson Fury but has still never been beaten in the professional ring.
He became an Olympic gold medalist in 2012, then undisputed cruiserweight champion by 2018, and all but completed boxing with his latest victory, which was also a first-ever loss for Fury.
The pair are set to do it all again on December 21 back out in Saudi Arabia and the boxing world is split as to who will come out on top because Fury has a track record of switching up styles in rematches to get fights won.
Evidence of that came when he took on Deontay Wilder for a second time and attacked on the front foot to get a knockout win having been more cautious and boxed his way to a draw the first time they met.
As both men are in their late 30s, the heavyweight landscape will soon need a new star and promoter Frank Warren has revealed that Usyk and his team both agree that will be young Moses Itauma after seeing him face veteran heavyweight Mariusz Wach.
“Alex Krassyuk and Usyk were both sitting there and both of them said at the same time ‘this is the future of the heavyweight division’”.
The unbeaten Itauma knocked Wach down early and with fast hands and great power, stopped him in the second round.
The unbeaten Brit boasts an impressive 8 knockouts from his 10 fights and currently on a 6 fight KO streak. He is still just 19 years old and hoped to beat Mike Tyson‘s record of being the youngest-ever heavyweight champion, but right now is in camp sparring with Fury.
