The current best heavyweight on the planet has spoken about who he thinks is the greatest big man to ever do it.
After almost 25 years of waiting, the boxing world was finally able to get an undisputed champion in the banner division back in May.
The last time one man held all the major world titles was in 1999. That was Lennox Lewis when there were just three recognised belts, but former Olympic gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk managed to claim all four with his impressive victory over Tyson Fury out in Saudi Arabia.
The long-awaited showdown was a suitably entertaining contest that saw both men have spells on top but ultimately it was the Ukrainian who came out as the points winner. His huge ninth round included a standing eight count for Fury who was caught with a right hook and sent spinning around the ring.
Speaking to DAZN recently he was asked to play a word association game and had only one answer when ‘GOAT’ [greatest of all time] was put to him.
“Muhammad Ali.”
Ali, known at ‘the greatest’, was a three-time heavyweight champion and held the undisputed crown between 1974 to 1978. He was named Sports Personality of the Century by the BBC and by coincidence, he has the same birthday as Usyk.
Next up, the former undisputed cruiserweight king will have to defend his belts as well as the lineal title when he rematches ‘The Gypsy King’ on December 21 in The Kingdom.
