It is officially fight week for the Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury rematch.
Usyk faces Fury again in one of the most anticipated rematches in boxing history, seven months on from their initial encounter which saw the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over 20 years crowned.
It was Usyk that was victorious, dropping his rival on his way to a split decision win to walk away with the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF titles and hand Fury the first defeat of his professional career.
The IBF belt was since vacated so that the contracted rematch between Usyk and Fury could take place, with Daniel Dubois now holding that strap.
Ahead of the Fury rematch, there has been talk that Usyk could hang up the gloves if he is successful again, having defeated all comers that have faced him in his illustrious career.
The Ukrainian already holds a win over Dubois, while he also picked up back-to-back victories against Anthony Joshua in 2021 and 2022.
With that in mind, Usyk has now revealed to The Stomping Ground if another win over Fury could see him retire, but he insists that won’t be the case.
“When I beat Tyson Fury, I want to continue boxing. I want to continue training. Maybe I rest three, four months then I will be back in the boxing gym.”
If it is Fury that is triumphant this weekend, it’s expected that a trilogy fight between the two elite heavyweights could then take place in 2025.
Full attention is on the rematch on Saturday though, and boxing legend Prince Naseem Hamed has given a defiant prediction for the bout.
