Ukrainian superstar Vasiliy Lomachenko could be set to make a shock comeback to the sport against a record-breaking champion.

The 37-year-old three-weight world champion announced his retirement from boxing back in June, with his final ring appearance coming when he defeated Australia’s George Kambosos Jr in May of 2024.

Lomachenko racked up victories over the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux, Richard Commey and Jorge Linares in his career, and suffered only a handful of defeats to Devin Haney, Orlando Salido and Teofimo Lopez.

As rumours begin to circulate about a potential return to the ring for the Ukrainian great, it is being suggested that the 37-year-old could actually face eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao in the new year.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Pacquiao revealed that there is a possibility that he could face Lomachenko in an exhibition bout next, as well as hinting at a potential rematch with Floyd Mayweather.

“There’s a lot of ongoing negotiations right now, so it’s hard to plan what fight I’m going to post. I’m waiting for the final negotiation. But right now we have a lot of negotiation about my next fight. There’s a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather, and also there’s a [exhibition] fight with Lomachenko and other fighters. So soon we are going to announce the final decision of what fight we’re going to post.”

Pacquiao made a sensational return to the ring back in the summer, fighting to a draw against reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas.

The 46-year-old is now in the process of finalising his next ring appearance, with the aforementioned Lomachenko and Mayweather believed to be the frontrunners.
