Andre Ward shocked the boxing world when he made a surprise callout of Anthony Joshua.

Ward was world champion at super-middleweight and light heavyweight, but retired from the sport the age of 33 back in 2017.

The American has now announced he is willing to end his eight-year retirement and move up to heavyweight to take on Joshua.

“There’s one name that I brought up before that when you say that name I can see myself fighting him. Present day. Today. If the business was right and everything was right on that front, me and Anthony Joshua.

“That’s a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium. It’s a dangerous fight for my legacy, it’s a dangerous fight across the board. But that’s a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war. It’s Anthony Joshua. I know he’s getting ready to fight Jake Paul, I ain’t talking about that. I’m talking about a real fight.”

Joshua initially responded by suggesting that Ward was just looking for a payday, but says if he is sensible with his money demands then the two can ‘rumble’.

“Don’t come asking for multi millions to fight me. Put your pride before your ego and let’s rumble.”

Joshua confirmed his interest in the bout by saying he has sent Eddie Hearn’s contact details to Andre Ward’s manager.

The shock potential match-up between Ward and Joshua has got the whole boxing world talking, and Joshua’s long-term heavyweight rival Tyson Fury has weighed in with what he thinks about the battle.
