Two-weight world champion Andre Ward could be on the verge of making a sensational return to the ring, with Canelo Alvarez and Anthony Joshua touted as potential opponents.
Ward has not fought since defeated Russia’s Sergey Kovalev in their much anticipated rematch back in 2017, going on to announce his retirement from the sport shortly after.
He stopped Kovalev in the eighth round of their clash in Las Vegas to successfully defend his unified WBA, WBO and IBF world light-heavyweight titles, drawing the curtain on his glittering career with an unbeaten record of 32-0 to his name.
Whilst he has openly admitted that he is happy with the current situation that he is in, the now 41-year-old appears to be tempted by the prospect of making a comeback to the sport, naming the one fighter that he would be interested in facing should this come to fruition.
With rumours circulating that he could face Mexican icon Canelo in a potential comeback fight, Ward revealed on The Ak & Barak Show that he would be more interested in facing two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua instead.
“I’m going Anthony Joshua, all or nothing, all or nothing.”
Joshua has not fought since suffering that devastating defeat to fellow countryman Daniel Dubois, who stopped ‘AJ’ in the fifth round of their showdown at Wembley Stadium last September to retain his IBF heavyweight title.
The 35-year-old from Watford is currently recovering from elbow surgery, but could make his long-awaited return to the ring before the end of the year, after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that Youtuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul is the shock ‘front runner’ to face the Brit next.
