Fabio Wardley is preparing to make the first defence of his WBO heavyweight title.

Wardley had an extremely successful 2025, first earning a knockout victory over Justis Huni when they met at Portman Road in Ipswich in June.

He then returned four months later and secured a come-from-behind knockout win against Joseph Parker at the O2 Arena in London, claiming the WBO interim belt in the process.

After Oleksandr Usyk opted to vacate his title, Wardley was elevated to full champion, becoming the latest Brit to hold world honours in the heavyweight division.

Wardley has been linked to a number of opponents for his first defence, including the likes of Daniel Dubois and Derek Chisora, but it’s another domestic rival that he could step into the ring with soon.

Posting on social media, former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury declared his interest in a showdown against Wardley.

“Like I said let’s see how I am looking in my return fight. Then later in 2026 this would be a good option for me to try become 3 x heavyweight champion. @fabiowardley has a hard fight himself coming up soon.

“I know the fight you guys all want but at this time I won’t say his name out of respect as he is in mourning, But if he is not going to continue in boxing I’d like Big Fab as a big test this would be also a massive spectacle!”

Fury is referring to a clash against long-term rival Anthony Joshua, but if that doesn’t take place, it appears a battle against Wardley could be on the cards.

‘The Gypsy King’ is expected to first return to action in April, with the likes of Arslanbek Makhmudov and Brandon Moore mentioned as possible opponents.
