Frank Warren has assessed Conor Benn‘s win against Regis Prograis this past weekend.
Benn was fighting for the first time since he beat Chris Eubank Jr late last year to end their bitter and long-running rivalry.
The contest was at a catchweight of 150lbs as Benn slowly goes back down to his natural welterweight division, having fought Eubank up at 160lbs.
He started strongly and looked to have hurt Prograis, a former two-time world champion, a couple of times in the early rounds, though the American managed to rally and hear the final bell.
That wasn’t enough, as Benn saw out a wide points win, though the showing has received some criticism for the Brit’s failure to get Prograis out of there inside the distance given his age and injuries and despite him never being stopped before.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Warren was lukewarm about Benn’s performance.
“Listen, he fought a guy who was a good fighter, he’s still not a bad fighter, but he’s not a natural at that weight, and I think he gave him a few problems.
“He’s got a good work rate Conor, he got banged up a bit, he got badly banged up in the fight, he got a few cuts, you know, I don’t think it was a great day in the office for him but it is what it is.”
Since the final bell, Benn has once again claimed he is ready to fight for a world title, and WBC champion Ryan Garcia is the man on top of his hit list.
