Frank Warren Asked If Moses Itauma Is A Better Boxer Than Mike Tyson Was

Moses Itauma has always said he wants to become one of the youngest ever world champions and now Frank Warren has compared him to another great young prodigy in Mike Tyson.

Tyson still holds the record for being the youngest ever heavyweight world champion after he picked up his first strap at the age of just 20 in 1986. The fearsome American knocked out the first 19 men he faced on his way to that historic win, and Itauma is not far behind.

The now 21-year-old has faced 13 men, beaten them all and stopped 11 inside the first two minutes.

Speaking to Clubhouse Boxing, promoter Warren suggested that Itauma is not far behind ‘Iron Mike’s development at the same age.

“The comparison with Mike Tyson is there, and the reason I say that is the quality of the opposition he has fought at his age is a little bit better than Mike Tyson had fought at his age. It’s about getting out there, doing the business in the gym and learning your trade. But I think Moses is a better boxer than Mike Tyson.”

He was then asked if he believes Itauma can become a world champion in 2026.

“I think he can.”

First up for him this year is a tough test against American Jermaine Franklin, which was originally scheduled for January but has been postponed until March after Itauma suffered an injury late in the day.

Franklin is well known to UK fight fans after coming here twice and pushing both Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte hard across all 12 rounds.
