Frank Warren Has No Doubt Who Wins Carl Froch vs Joe Calzaghe: “I’d Put My House On It”

Carl Froch versus Joe Calzaghe is an often discussed super-middleweight fantasy fight and now Frank Warren has given his view on what might have happened.

Froch and Calzaghe are two of the most celebrated British boxers of their generation and both had hugely successful careers that overlapped.

‘The Cobra’ picked up WBA, WBC and IBF world titles with memorable wins over Mikkel Kessler, Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute.

Famously he had battles with British rival George Groves, controversially winning the first with what was deemed to be an early stoppage by many, but knocked ‘The Saint’ out conclusively in the rematch at Wembley the following year.

Calzaghe was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame that same year in 2014. He had retired undefeated and won multiple world titles across both the super middleweight and light heavyweight division with Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr and Jeff Lacy all failing to get the better of the Welshman.

There has long been a rivalry between Froch and Calzaghe, with each man accusing the other of ducking him back when they were both active. Now Calzaghe’s former promoter Warren has told BoxNation he is certain his old charge would have won if they’d have come to blows.

“It’s a no brainer [Joe wins]. No brainer. I would have my house on that.”

Froch remains a popular pundit in the boxing world having retired after the second Groves fight while Calzaghe recently admitted a fight between him and another legend of the sport, former two-division world champion Andre Ward, would have been a draw.
