Frank Warren is pushing for two of his fighters to battle it out for unified honours in the heavyweight division.
Warren has long had involvement with heavyweight boxers at the very top level, from fights with Mike Tyson when he came to the UK, along with time spend working with Frank Bruno.
More recently he has seen his charge Daniel Dubois win a world title not once but twice, most recently with his knockout win over Fabio Wardley earlier in the year to lift the WBO title.
Now it has been announced that another of his young fighters, Moses Itauma, will be fighting for the vacant IBF world title when he takes on Filip Hrgovic on August 29.
It will be a maiden title shot for the 21 year old who has won all 14 of his fights so far, 12 of them by knockout, but it is a huge step up against Hrgovic, who has lost just once to Daniel Dubois across his career.
Speaking to the BBC, Warren admitted he would like to see Itauma in a unification fight with the Dubois vs. Wardley rematch winner next year.
“It would be huge, absolutely huge. They’re big punchers. These guys are big, big punchers. They’re exciting. They’re not in boring fights. I’ve seen best friends fight each other, but they do it for the money they get, which pays the bills.”
Before looking towards that possibility, Itauma must first become the second-youngest man to win a world heavyweight title by beating Hrgovic, but he would also have to see off his mandatory challenger Frank Sanchez, which could take place around the same time as the contracted rematch between Dubois and Wardley.
