WBC Order World Title Trilogy After One Win For Each Fighter: “That Has To Be Next”

The WBC has ordered an intriguing third fight between two high-profile fighters.

Boxing politics can often keep the best fighters apart, no matter how much clamour there is from the public. Some organisations are better than others at sticking to their own rules and regulations, and now the WBC has stepped in to ensure that two of the best must come together for a deciding third fight.

Speaking to Boxing Social, WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán confirmed that his organisation has ordered Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron to begin negotiations.

“The WBC did order that fight. There was a previous order for Chantelle Cameron, the interim champion, to fight Katie Taylor. We gave an extension, then the petition came from Taylor to do the third fight with Amanda Serrano, a high calibre fight. The WBC accepted it with the condition that she has to fight Chantelle Cameron next, and we have ordered that fight.”

Taylor is one of the most accomplished boxers in the sport. The Olympic gold medallist from London 2012 turned pro in 2016 and quickly became the undisputed lightweight champion.

Back in July, she beat Amanda Serrano for the third time to retain her status as the undisputed super-lightweight champion and must now put those belts on the line once more against Cameron.

Cameron hails from Northampton and the pair have fought twice already. Their first fight took place in May 2023 in Dublin, where Cameron successfully defended her super-lightweight titles by outpointing Taylor in a close, intense bout, which handed Taylor her first professional loss.

The rematch came in November 2023, also in Dublin, with Taylor adjusting her tactics to win by majority decision, avenging her loss and becoming undisputed champion in two weight classes.

A rematch between the two is an intriguing fight as Taylor nears the end of her career while Cameron has put together three wins on the bounce up at super-lightweight since her loss to Taylor.
