Dillian Whyte suffered the fourth defeat of his professional career against Moses Itauma.
The two fighters met in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, in a fight that heading in was billed as a crossroads bout in the heavyweight division.
Whyte was a former world title challenger that had claimed victories over fighters like Joseph Parker and Derek Chisora in the past, while Itauma was a rising star that had never been tested yet in his professional career.
The test still didn’t come from Whyte though, as Itauma once again looked his destructive best, claiming a first round knockout win against ‘The Bodysnatcher’ to extend his unbeaten record to 13-0, with 11 of those wins coming by knockout.
Whyte has also suffered stoppage losses to Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin in his career, but none of them had come as quickly as the defeat to Itauma.
With that in mind, Dean Whyte explained to Boxing King Media where Dillian thought it had gone wrong and the ‘mistake’ he made after the pair had a conversation following the loss.
“[Dillian said] the same thing, obviously he got caught and then made a mistake, in terms of pulling up and then getting caught with further shots… He said he didn’t want to try and hold with him and get caught coming in.”
There have been some calls following the fight for Whyte to now call time on his career following the defeat, while in the case of Itauma, he has already responded to those urging him to jump straight into an undisputed heavyweight title fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
