Dillian Whyte has shared the ring with Tyson Fury and has now given his view on the Brit’s next fight with Arslanbek Makhmudov.
Whyte fought Fury back in 2022 when Fury was in the midst of his second stint as world champion. He lost inside six rounds as Fury retained his WBC title, and then went on to beat Dereck Chisora and Francis Ngannou before twice fighting Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.
The first fight was for the undisputed championship, and he lost on points, having been given a count in round nine, and in the rematch in December of that year, he was again shut out on the cards.
That caused him to retire and spend more than a year out of the ring, but he returns in April to take on Russian giant Makhmudov, who beat Dave Allen last time out.
Speaking to iFL TV, Whyte didn’t hold back with his assessment of the fight.
“Tyson Fury is a smart man, he’s very good at having these easy fights. He fought Sefer Seferi and made it into a big comeback fight. It’s the same s**t. He gets away with a lot man, he’s smart. I think [the choice of opponent is] terrible. Makhmudov is too slow, he’s going to get battered.”
Although Makhmudov is physically imposing and throws solid punches, he has shown vulnerabilities before losing to both Agit Kabayel and Guido Vianello by knockout.
Fury will be hoping to expose more of those as he seeks to get back to the top of the sport during this final stage of his career, although his father suggests his legs have gone.
