Dillian Whyte has been asked what might happen if Fabio Wardley were to fight Anthony Joshua.

Wardley is the man of the moment, having quickly risen from white collar roots to now being the WBO world champion. He didn’t win the belt in the ring and was instead elevated to become the full title holder after Usyk vacated his title, but he did put in a good showing to stop the in-form Joseph Parker in October.

Joshua, meanwhile, is a former two-time unified world champion but hasn’t had a belt since he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in 2021, and last time he entered the ring back in September 2024, he was stopped inside five by then IBF-ruler Daniel Dubois.

Speaking on Clubhouse Boxing, Whyte, who himself lost by KO to Joshua, was asked if Wardley could now have the beating of Joshua, and he didn’t hesitate.

“Definitely, definitely, definitely, especially ‘AJ’ is coming off a long layoff as well.”

He then explained why.

“It’s confidence. Fabio has got that. You know what it’s like, you can have experience, but it’s confidence; if your confidence is not on point, you don’t want to be going into certain fights. I think ‘AJ’ doesn’t have that confidence at the moment.

“He’s fighting Jake Paul, it’s a money fight, but it’s not going to do anything for his confidence if he comes back to fight the likes of Fury. He needs to get back to real boxing.”

Joshua takes on Paul this month and has said he will then go on to bigger, more legitimate fights next year, with many hoping he will finally square off with Tyson Fury.
