Buddy McGirt has given his assessment after witnessing his fighter Dillian Whyte lose to Moses Itauma on Saturday.

The two heavyweights went head-to-head in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in what was billed as a crossroads match-up for the banner division.

Whyte was a former world title challenger looking to get back in the mix with the other top heavyweights, while Itauma is a rising star that is widely tipped for massive things in the sport.

It was clear to see exactly why so many are backing Itauma to go all the way, as he wiped out Whyte inside the first round to extend his undefeated record to 13-0, with 11 of those victories now coming by knockout.

Top trainer McGirt has now given his reaction after being in the corner, as he explained to Boxing King Media where it went wrong for his man Whyte.

“He got caught and couldn’t recover. That’s all you can say. He got hit with a good shot and didn’t recover and the referee did what he felt was right. I know the kid is good and I know he can fight, he’s definitely a future world champion.”

Itauma is now set for another step up in his next fight, with plans for him to return before the end of 2025. As for Whyte, there have been some calls for him to now retire following the loss, though a former world champion has claimed that ‘The Bodysnatcher’ was injured for the bout with Itauma, potentially explaining the lacklustre performance.
