Deontay Wilder has entered the autumn of his career and must choose his final opponents well if he is to go out on a high.

Wilder was once the most feared puncher in boxing with an impressive knockout ratio that saw him win and defend his WBC heavyweight crown for many years.

He eventually came unstuck in a trilogy with Tyson Fury, drawing the first match and losing the second and third by knockout.

He has not been the same since, with just one quick stoppage win over Robert Helenious followed by a points defeat to Joseph Parker and then a KO at the fists of Zhilei Zhang in June 2024. After a long time out, he returned in June with a win over the little-known Tyrell Herndon and has vowed he will fight on.

Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, promoter Eddie Hearn has offered him what would be a hugely popular and entertaining fight with a real British heavyweight favourite.

“If Dave Allen beats Makhmudov, he’s going to put himself in line for some huge fights. I like the Wilder fight personally, we’ve reached out to Shelly Finkel personally, to talk about that, but let’s see what happens October 11.”

Allen takes on the towering Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov in Sheffield after his most recent and arguably most impressive win when he stopped Johnny Fisher in their rematch earlier in the year. He has since been ranked at number eight with the WBA and will likely move higher with a win next month.

‘The White Rhino’ has promised he is in the shape of his life for what is a tough but winnable fight for the Doncaster man in October.
