Deontay Wilder has had his say on whether or not Derek Chisora has fought his final fight.
Wilder got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 12-round victory over ‘Del Boy’ this past weekend. It is his best victory in several years following a series of losses to the likes of Tyson Fury, who knocked him out twice, Zhilei Zhang, who also stopped him, and Joseph Parker, who beat him on points.
Though the American was unable to secure one of his once trademark knockouts, he landed plenty of big shots to keep the veteran Chisora at bay as both men, now in their forties, fought for the right to continue at the top level of the sport.
Speaking to FightHub TV, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ reflected on where Chisora is at right now.
“This is my 50th fight, this is his 50th fight, and what better way for him to retire right here at home as well. A lot of people ask me, do you believe he’s retired? Yes I do.
“He promised his wife and his children that he will, so why not believe that, you know what I mean? The man fought everybody. As a fighter, you can only wish to fight as many incredible fighters as he has done, so why not be able to retire at this point in time?”
As for Wilder himself, he is already being linked with plenty of potential opponents from Anthony Joshua to Moses Itauma, so he could be around for a while yet.
