Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has predicted the outcome of a fantasy clash between Muhammad Ali and Oleksandr Usyk.
The late-great Ali is widely considered to be one of, if not the greatest heavyweight to have ever graced the sport.
The Kentucky-native became a world heavyweight champion on several occasions during his glittering career, defeating the likes of George Foreman in the ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ and Joe Frazier in the ‘Thrilla In Manila’ along the way.
As for Usyk, the Ukrainian superstar has established himself as the best heavyweight on the planet over the last few years, becoming the first fighter of the modern era to win the undisputed heavyweight championship on two separate occasions.
The unbeaten 38-year-old was last in action on July 19 when he stopped Britain’s Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their showdown at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
In a round of ‘Knockout’ with The Daily Mail, Wilder, who held the WBC heavyweight title for five years from 2015 to 2020, didn’t hesitate to back Ali in a fantasy match-up against Usyk, as he claims ‘nobody’ would have beaten ‘The Greatest’.
“Oh, Ali. Ain’t nobody beating Ali. I’m just sorry, that’s my guy.”
Whilst he is commended for his outstanding boxing ability, Ali still receives plaudits for the influence that he had on the sport. He is known to have inspired many fighters during his lifetime, including Hall of Fame great Roy Jones Jr who once revealed that he believes Ali is the ‘greatest of all time’.
