Deontay Wilder has won 43 fights and 42 of them have come by knockout.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ is widely regarded as one of the heavyweight division’s biggest ever punchers. At one stage, he had knocked out every man he faced until he came up against Tyson Fury after being the WBC world champion for five years.

Although many feels he lacks a rounded skillset, possesses an ungainly style and a defence that isn’t the most solid, Wilder’s right hand was a reliable leveller throughout much of his career. Indeed, he summed it up himself when he said his opponents must be perfect for 12 rounds, but he only needs two seconds.

Speaking to Inside Boxing Live, Wilder was asked which of his 42 knockouts was his favourite and didn’t hesitate when naming Dominic Breazeale.

“I’m gonna have to go with the Breazeale one.”

The pair fought at the Barclays Center in New York City back in May 2019 and the fight ended inside the first round with a devastating one-punch stoppage. It saw Wilder retain his WBC belt and get back to winning ways following his draw with Fury in the previous fight.

After that came a second win over Luis Ortiz after struggling somewhat in the first fight and, as was often the way with Wilder, being down on all of the judges’ cards when the stoppage came.

He then failed to set up his right hand sufficiently and took back-to-back losses to Fury, before a simple first-round KO of Robert Helenius, but then took two more defeats, one to Joseph Parker on points and the other a stoppage by Zhilei Zhang.

That was last June, and this weekend Wilder returns against Tyrell Hernedon as he has one last shot at getting back to world level.
