Former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.
The pound-for-pound greats faced each other in a historic showdown at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas back in September.
‘Bud’ Crawford put on an outstanding display against the Mexican icon, defeating him via unanimous decision to capture the undisputed super-middleweight championship.
The 38-year-old from Nebraska etched his name into the boxing history books with that victory, becoming the first male fighter to win an undisputed championship in three separate divisions.
Rumours have began to circulate about a potential rematch between the duo, which could potentially see them doing battle for a second time in 2026.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Wilder didn’t hesitate to back Crawford to defeat Canelo once again, as he claims the unbeaten American is ‘more skillful’ than his former rival.
“Crawford [wins the rematch]. I said Crawford was going to win the first time because it’s just skills make fights, you know what I’m saying? And I knew that Crawford was going to come, I knew that he wasn’t intimidated by nothing by all means.
“I knew that his skills were a lot better and on top of that he can switch from southpaw to orthodox, with those factors right there I knew it was gonna be a big problem for Canelo.”
Should a rematch between Crawford and Canelo come to fruition, it would only be contested for the unified WBA, WBO and IBF super-middleweight titles after ‘Bud’ was stripped of his WBC world title earlier this month for failing to pay sanctioning fees.
Canelo is currently recovering from an injury that he sustained to his elbow, but the 35-year-old is expected to be ready to make a return to action within the next couple of months.
