Deontay Wilder Says One Current Heavyweight Would Beat George Foreman

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder believes one active fighter in particular would have beaten the late-great George Foreman.

‘Big George’ is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever graced the sport where he became the world heavyweight champion on two occasions.

The Texas-native is perhaps best known for his historic ‘Rumble In The Jungle’ fight with Muhammad Ali, which took place in Zaire in October 1974 and saw Ali claim an eighth round stoppage win to become to dethrone Foreman.

Another memorable moment for ‘Big George’ came when he became the oldest heavyweight champion of all time, a feat he achieved back in November 1994 when he stopped Michael Moorer in the 10th round of their Las Vegas showdown.

Foreman eventually drew the curtain on his professional career after he was beaten by Shannon Briggs in 1997, although he was due to make a comeback to the sport against Larry Holmes a couple of years later but did not go through with the planned bout.

In a round of ‘Knockout’ with The Daily Mail, Wilder claimed that he believes two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua would have defeated Foreman in a fantasy match-up.

“Im’ma go with [Anthony] Joshua now.”

Joshua is set to make his long-awaited return to the ring this weekend when he faces former YouTube sensation Jake Paul at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

The 36-year-old from Watford is reportedly in line to fight once again in February before going on to face long-term rival Tyson Fury in a massive domestic showdown during the later stages of next year.
