Deontay Wilder might be in the autumn of his career, but he still has his sights set on fighting one of his long-time rivals.
For many years, Wilder ruled over the heavyweight division with his hugely potent right hand. In his first 39 contests, he knocked out every man he faced, and only came unstuck against Tyson Fury, with a draw in their first fight, then two KO losses in the next two.
After that, he was beaten on points by Joseph Parker, then stopped by Zhilei Zhang, and back in June, recorded his first win in a while with a KO over Tyrell Herndon.
Right now, he has no fight locked in, but when asked by Action Network whether the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul could impact a potential clash between ‘The Bronze Bomber’ and the Brit, he said no.
“I don’t think so. I wouldn’t think so at all. I don’t feel like people would use that and stop the fight from happening, or have some type of excuse. I think they’ll wanna see anyway, like I said before.
“This right here (raises fists) is universal. That speaks its own language. Unfortunately, styles make fights and people wanna see people fight no matter what the record is or who they are. I just wanna see a good scrap.”
For many people, ‘AJ’ is the overwhelming favourite going into that fight, so if he does come out with a win, a battle with Wilder could be one option for 2026 if Tyson Fury, who is the fans’ number one choice to face Joshua, remains retired.
