Deontay Wilder got a comeback win in June and is now looking to build on that as he works his way back into world title contention.
Wilder was once the most fearsome puncher in the sport. He is now 39-years-old, a veteran of 49 fights, and 44 of them were wins, with 43 coming by way of knockout. Most famously he has fought three times with Tyson Fury, drawing the first, then being stopped in the next two.
Since then he also took consecutive losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, before returning to winning ways last time out against a little-known opponent in Tyrrell Herndon.
Another boxer that was in action during that same week in June as Wilder as Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who continued his boxing journey with a unanimous decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Speaking to Brian Mazique, Wilder admitted that he would ‘100%’ take a fight with Paul.
“Nothing has been presented to us, at the moment it’s not real, but if it came my way of course I’m 100 per cent taking it. He’s been doing his thing in the business although it’s not the traditional way, it’s not the logic way of how a fighter comes up or how he gains stardom and fame and fortune.”
He added that he would like to teach him a lesson about real boxing.
“That’s exactly how I would approach it. It would be a big reality check. That would be the title of the show – ‘Reality Check’.”
Paul is currently set to face lightweight champion Gervonta Davis next in November. The bout has caused controversy given the fact that both men usually compete at a 60lb weight difference.
Widler, meanwhile, is now in talks to fight former UFC champion Francis Ngannou, who was beaten by both Fury and Anthony Joshua.
