William Scull suffered the first defeat of his career to Canelo Alvarez and has now shared his thoughts on his former rival’s upcoming clash with Terence Crawford.
The former IBF super-middleweight was beaten via unanimous decision by the Mexican icon when they locked horns in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia back in May, falling short in his attempt at becoming the undisputed champion at 168lbs.
Whilst Canelo got the nod on all three of the judges scorecards, the 35-year-old from Guadalajara received criticism for his performance against Scull, who looked to move rather engage throughout and saw Canelo struggle to close him down.
Canelo has now switched his attention to this clash with Crawford, as the two men prepare to do battle at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on September 13.
Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Scull – who recently told World Boxing News, “many people saw me win, and I also saw myself winning” – said that whilst the showdown between his former rival and Crawford is going to be a ‘great fight’, he expects the Mexican star to walk away as the winner due to the significant weight advantage that he should have come fight night.
“I think it’s going to be a great fight. There is a disadvantage in regards to the weight classes. If there wasn’t it would have to be a 50-50 fight but because of this, fighting at this weight class definitely benefits Canelo. I’d say about a 75% chance that Canelo wins the fight.”
Whilst there have been concerns expressed about Crawford making such a significant jump in weight when he faces Canelo, the 37-year-old appears to have made the transition up to super-middleweight very well if recent photos are to be believed.
A victory for ‘Bud’ would see him become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to capture a four-belt undisputed championship in three weight classes, having already achieved this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight.
