World Champion Admits Gervonta Davis Is ‘Tremendous’ But ‘Not On My Level’: “He Can’t Beat Me”

A reigning world champion has claimed he is ‘way better’ than lightweight star Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

‘Tank’ has cemented himself as one of the best active fighters at 135lbs in recent years, where he currently holds the WBA title. The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland has also won all 30 of his professional contests, securing stoppage victories in 28 of those outings.

Davis is due to make the next defence of his WBA crown on March 1 when he faces Lamont Roach Jr at the Barclays Center in New York City.

His bout against Roach could potentially be one of the last times that ‘Tank’ appears as a professional, after it was speculated that he could walk away from boxing at the end of 2025 due to him growing tired of the sport, though he has since clarified that stance.

One fighter that has been linked with a showdown against Davis is WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, who is also undefeated as a professional having won all 23 of his professional contests since his career began back in 2017.

Speaking on The Ring Magazine Podcast, Stevenson gave plaudits to Davis who he claims is a ‘tremendous fighter’, but feels he can not be beaten by his fellow American.

“I think he’s a tremendous fighter, I think his boxing ability is insane, his boxing IQ, footwork, power, the way he sets up shots, I love his boxing style.

Do I think he could beat me? No. Do I think that he’s on my level? No. I think that I’m way better than him. It’s only one way to find out, we gotta get in the ring with each other.”

Stevenson made the latest defence of his WBC title on Saturday against late replacement Josh Padley, winning the fifth by ninth round stoppage, but Davis wasn’t impressed by his rival’s performance.
