Gervonta Davis has a big target on his back following his latest performance.
‘Tank’ defended his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on Saturday, but it was a lacklustre performance from Davis, who could only be held to a majority draw verdict after 12 hard-fought rounds.
It could yet turn out to be even worse for Davis, due to a controversial moment in the ninth round where he voluntarily chose to take a knee, but the referee decided not to give him a count.
A 10-8 round for Roach there would have been enough to earn him the win, and the New York State Athletic Commission says it is ‘reviewing the matter’ regarding the incident, with some onlookers speculating it could produce a change of result.
For now, the outcome remains the same, and it has led to some fellow boxers to call out ‘Tank’ for a fight, believing he may have now lost some of his high-level skills that were on display for a number of years.
One man in particular has vowed that he will knock out Davis, with new WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis calling out his namesake in a video captured by FightHype.
“I’m knocking him out. Don’t say I’m beating him, I’m not going to beat him, I’m knocking him out. I’m knocking Tank out. He’s soft for real, he took a knee. He called a time out and they let him, this is a Tank Davis event, damn.”
He can’t do that with me bro. You blink wrong I’m hitting you. He ain’t even going to want to fight me. He better not fight me, I’m a fu*k his career up.”
Keyshawn became world champion with a dominant fourth round stoppage victory over Denys Berinchyk last month, and a showdown against ‘Tank’ would certainly be one of the best fights that could be made at 135lbs.
