Terence Crawford has a number of options for his next fight.
He became a four-weight world champion when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title in August, having previously reigned from lightweight to welterweight.
Attention has turned to who ‘Bud’ may now face next, with a blockbuster showdown against Canelo Alvarez continuously linked, thanks to Crawford’s willingness to step up to super-middleweight.
The likes of Sebastian Fundora and Teofimo Lopez have also been mentioned as potential opponents, but now another world champion has made it clear that they are more than willing to share the ring with Crawford.
That man is Jaron Ennis, the current IBF welterweight champion who returns to action in Philadelphia on November 9 to face mandatory challenger Karen Chukhadzhian.
Ennis became IBF champion after he was elevated from interim champion, due to Crawford being unable to fulfil his mandatory as he was contracted to face Errol Spence in a rematch, though that never materialised.
Crawford and Ennis have been repeatedly linked to a fight since that point, and ‘Boots’ has told The Ariel Helwani Show that he is doing everything he can to secure a bout against ‘Bud’ and is hopeful that it can be made in the future.
“Hopefully it’s true [that I’ll fight him].
I’ve been asking for that fight. I’m tired of answering the same questions. You’ve got to ask him. I’ve said yes plenty of times. I can’t speak for him.
When it’s my turn and I’ve got to fight a young lion, I definitely will give him that opportunity. I love fighting and I love beating people up. I don’t care who it is I ain’t going to lie. I will fight any and everybody.
Bring them all on. I want to fight everybody and show the world that I’m the best fighter in the world.”
Clarity on who Crawford will fight next is expected in the near future, and boxing legend Bernard Hopkins has told ‘Bud’ who it should be.
