A newly crowned world champion has vowed to defeat Gervonta Davis in similar fashion to Terence Crawford’s brutal victory over Errol Spence Jr.
‘Bud’ Crawford became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the ‘four belt era’ when he knocked out Spence in the ninth round of their bout back in July 2023.
One fighter who will be looking to replicate the achievements of Crawford in his own division is newly crowned WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis, who dethroned Denys Berinchyk on February 15 in New York City to capture the first world title of his professional tenure.
Following his victory over the 36-year-old Ukrainian, ‘The Businessman’ was quick to call-out WBA lightweight champion ‘Tank’ for a showdown in the near future.
“Hey Gervonta – knock, knock.”
Davis’ trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre believes his fighter can get the better of ‘Tank’, and even feels he can put on a similar performance to the one ‘Bud’ Crawford put on against ‘The Truth’ back in 2023, which has been backed up by ‘The Businessman’ himself.
“Exactly, how he said it. I see myself putting the same beating on Gervonta as Terence did [to Spence]. I feel like his style is perfect for my style. I’m young, I don’t think it will go the full 12 but I can fight 12 rounds if it comes down to it. I’m smarter than him inside and outside of the ring. I’m just smarter than him period.”
‘Tank’ Davis returns to the ring himself on March 1 as he makes the latest defence of his WBA title against American rival Lamont Roach Jr. Victory over Roach could set up an all-American unification clash which may happen later this year.
