One of the most feared punchers in all of boxing has declared that he’s not a fan of the sport and never watches it.
There is only one current world champion who boasts a 100% knockout ratio since turning professional and that’s the light-heavyweight unified champion, Artur Beterbiev.
Beterbiev currently holds the WBC, IBF, and WBO belts, with Dmitry Bivol controlling the WBA strap.
The 39-year-old boasts the perfect record of 20 knockouts in his 20 fights, with wins against the likes of Callum Smith, Anthony Yarde and Joe Smith Jr.
In an interview before his fight against Yarde, Beterbiev was asked if he enjoys his ‘job’ and his response was as blunt as his punches.
“Are you a fan of your work? I’m no boxing fan. I’m a fan of my training and everything, very focused, very serious, but I’m not a fan of boxing. No [I never watch it].”
The Russian born Canadian was set to face Bivol for the undisputed championship on June 1, but he ruptured his meniscus in training camp and the fight was postponed.
Turki Alalshikh, the man behind big time boxing in Saudi Arabia, has announced that the two will now step in the ring on October 12 for the opening of Riyadh Season.
The fight offers a fascinating clash of styles, with Beterbiev’s brute force and relentless pressure pitted against Bivol’s light footwork and hand speed.
Bivol stayed on the June card and fought late replacement Malik Zinad, securing his first stoppage victory in over six years.
