World Champion Declares He Is No Longer Chasing Gervonta Davis Fight: “Forget Him”

A newly-crowned world champion appears to have ended his interest in a showdown with Gervonta Davis.

‘Tank’ has enjoyed an impressive professional career to date, winning world titles in three weight divisions up until now. The 30-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland currently reigns as the WBA lightweight champion with his next title defence scheduled for March 1 against Lamont Roach Jr in New York.

Davis has one of the most impressive records in the sport, defeating all 30 of the opponents he has faced with 28 of those victories coming inside the scheduled distance. He has racked up solid wins against the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Ryan Garcia during his tenure which began back in 2013.

One fighter who has repeatedly shown an interest in facing ‘Tank’ is newly crowned WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis, although it appears that the 25-year-old from Norfolk, Virginia has made a u-turn on that.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Davis confirmed he is no longer pursuing a fight with ‘Tank’ after saying he believes the 30-year-old does not have ‘the balls’ to face him.

“I’m not chasing Tank. Let’s put that out there. F*ck Tank for real! Tank knows I want to fight him, his coach knows I want to fight him, the boxing world know I want to fight him. The question is does Tank have the balls to fight me?.”

Davis claimed the first world title of his tenure when he knocked out Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round of their bout on February 14 in New York. The 27-year-old has now earned his place at the top of an exciting 135lb division with his eyes firmly set on the biggest fights and opportunities available to him.
