A newly-crowned world champion believes Terence Crawford made a mistake by retiring from boxing last year.

Crawford drew the curtain on his glittering professional career back in December, just two months on from his monumental victory over Mexican great Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ defeated Canelo via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their showdown at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to become the undisputed world super-middleweight champion.

The 38-year-old from Omaha captured world titles in five weight divisions during his tenure, including the undisputed championship at super-lightweight, welterweight and super-middleweight.

In a shock claim made by Ryan Garcia on social media, the newly-crowned WBA welterweight champion believes Crawford made a mistake when he announced his retirement in December.

“I believe Terence left more of his legacy on the table. Just my opinion. Undisputed don’t mean anything if you know truly you didn’t challenge yourself. I’m speaking from knowing boxing and speaking from the heart as a fighter. Not just some random that can only see the surface level of the game”

Crawford appears to be happy in retirement and looks set to stick to his decision, but the former pound-for-pound star may well be tempted by a return to the sport in the future should the right opportunity present itself.

As for Garcia, he became WBA champion with a victory over Mario Barrios in February, and has now been linked with the likes of former foe Devin Haney, four-weight world champion Shakur Stevenson or two-weight world champion Teofimo Lopez for his next outing.
